- The Murderer and His Murder: A Review of Research byPublished in 1942, this book is a thorough examination of the study of the minds of those who murder at an attempt of understanding how and why murder occurs. Topics include but are not limited to general theories of violence, cultural patterns of homicide, psychological studies, potential brain differences, and the roles of substances.
- The Press in the Jury Box byWritten by Howard Felsher and Michael Rosen, this book explores how media impacts the outcomes of trials, and the problematic collision of the right of free press and the right to a fair trial.
Organized Crime
- Prohibition on the North Jersey Shore byGeorge Fresolone describes how and why he became a mob informant for the government. He acquired a substantial amount of previously unknown information about the traditions and functions of the Bruno-Scarfo family, also known as the Philadelphia Mob.
- Blood Oath byThis book explains how Prohibition encouraged criminal activity and created much more income for organized crime such as the mafia. It also explores the history of the area.
Specific Criminal Events
- The Trial and Conviction of Westervelt For the Abduction of Little Charley RossFound in the Rebecca Estell Bourgeois Collection (U0030), this small booklet explores the case and trial pertaining to the kidnapping of Charles Brewster Ross. Ross was a four year old boy abducted from his home in Germantown (Philadelphia, PA) on July 1, 1874.
- The Truly Remarkable Life of the Beautiful Helen JewettThis 1886 book details the short life of Helen Jewett, a young woman who was murdered at twenty-three years old in 1836.
- Life, Trial, Confession and Conviction of John Ware byPublished in 1871, this book details the trial and execution of John Ware for the murder of his father in Camden County, New Jersey.
- A History of Wesley Warner's Crime: The Murder of Lizzie PeakPublished in 1894, this book investigates the suspected timeline of the murder of Lizzie Peak, carried out by Wesley Warner.
- Righteous Carnage: The List Murders byIn 1971, John List murdered his mother, wife, and three children and fled out of New Jersey. List was able to hide and escape legal persecution for almost eighteen years. This book explores the crime, the chase after List, and his trial.
