About the Richard E. Bjork Personal Papers

Contained in this collection are research and publications by Dr. Richard E. Bjork, records from his Coast Guard service (1954-1969), correspondence from 1984, and obituaries and memorial services from his death. Also included are his doctoral hood and cap. The items were donated by his wife and daughters in 2016.

This collection does not directly involve his work at Stockton State College, with the exception of the awards series, which are plaques and recognitions he received while serving as president of Stockton. The papers relating to his work at Stockton are part of University Archives.

The Vice-Chancellor of the New Jersey Board of Higher Education, Dr. Richard E. Bjork was assigned in 1969 as the state liaison to the newly created state college in South Jersey. He helped the Board of Trustees select the site, name the college, and establish themselves, and he served as the first president of Richard Stockton State College from 1969-1978.
