Originally envisioned as an author meet-and-greet event in 2005, Lines on the Pines was founded by Linda and Jim Stanton. The first event took place at Sweetwater Casino and was so popular that the facility ran out of refreshments. The popularity led the Stantons to turn it into an annual event and to expand it from authors to include artisans, craftspeople, gardeners, local musicians, activities for children, and more. The annual celebration honors local culture and, crafts, and trades. The Stantons formed the nonprofit group, It’s a Sign of the Pines, which sponsors the annual event. Later years were hosted at Vienna Inn, Renault Winery, and Stockton University.
In addition to Lines on the Pines, the Stantons collected and compiled historical information on South Jersey areas, particularly those in the Pinelands National Reserve. Areas of particular interest are Batsto, Atsion, Pleasant Mills, and Chatsworth.
This collection contains the logistical information involved in hosting the annual event – from venue negotiations to vendor information to suggestions for keynote speakers to children’s activities.
While Stockton University’s Bjork Library’s Special Collection and Archives owns the collection, Stockton may not own the copyright for all of the items. Researchers wishing to reproduce materials are responsible for obtaining the proper permissions.
