Updates on the Library Learning Commons Project

Have you heard the exciting news? The library is getting a makeover! Richard E. Bjork Library was originally constructed in the early 1970s and was last renovated in the 1990s. As part of the NJ State Bond Solicitation 2022, Stockton has been awarded $19.5m in funds restricted for capital facilities improvement use only, specifically to renovate the Library into a state-of-the-art Library Learning Commons. This renovation will be a two-year process, during which the library will have a temporary presence in the C/D Atrium, which will be operational starting this summer 2024.

The new library concept plans are available on the website so you can see what’s in store for the new space. These plans are subject to change throughout the design development process—which means you still have time to provide feedback. Please click here to share your questions and comments.

Recent Accomplishments

In January, a number of librarians and library staff attended the New Jersey Academic Library Conference (NJALC) in Edison. Copy Cataloger, Nicole Barnabei, presented a poster about Bjork Library’s use of Baker and Taylor’s Sustainable Shelves Program.

At the conference, librarians Jeff Ge, Joyce DeStasio, and Eric Jeitner presented a poster on our pilot project to integrate subject guides into the Blackboard LMS. Stay tuned for more updates on this. Joyce DeStasio also presented on a panel of five librarians from all over New Jersey, as part of a Marketing & Outreach panel in which she spoke about Bjork Library’s interactive exhibit Your Library: Then, Now, Next.

At the same conference, Librarians Cheyenne Riehl and Heather Perez each led a round table discussion that complemented one another. While Cheyenne’s session focused on library instruction and research for specific subject areas, Heather’s analyzed collection development for specific subject areas.

In October, our Discovery/Web Services Librarian, Jeff Ge, presented a lightning talk at the ExLibris Northeast User Group (ENUG) Conference at the University of Pennsylvania's Van Pelt Library.

Familiar faces in new roles at Bjork Library!

Stephanie Sussmeier

Please join us in welcoming Stephanie Sussmeier, our new Metadata and Cataloging Librarian. She previously worked at Avalon History Center/Avalon Free Public Library and Westminster Choir College of Rider University. Before that, she worked in Tech Services here at Bjork Library for 12 years. Welcome back, Stephanie! Read more here.

Join the library in congratulating Jaimelyn Lombardo, our new Electronic Resources Coordinator. Jaimelyn was a student here and has worked in the library in various roles for the past 17 years.
