Luke and Jess standing outside of the library

Luke O’Connor, a junior Information Systems major here at Stockton, has received a Board of Trustees Fellowship for Distinguished Students for his project titled “21st Century Libraries: Reinstating the Library as a Fundamental Piece of our Culture.” Our Access and Engagement Coordinator Jess Chamberlain is the advisor for this project. With renovations potentially on the horizon for our library, Luke and Jess will be visiting institutions in and around New Jersey to become better acquainted with the intricacies of the 21st Century Library. The project aims to showcase the importance of modern ingenuity and timeless library qualities working collaboratively to provide a rich and diverse range of resources. It will also explore the challenges libraries face in this digital age and offer recommendations on how libraries can overcome these challenges to meet the evolving needs of their patrons. We look forward to Luke’s research this summer and are thrilled to be connected with this project. Congratulations, Luke!

Heather Perez and co-author Henrietta Shelton holding books on the Atlantic City Beach

Congratulations to our Special Collections Librarian Heather Perez on the publication of Chicken Bone Beach, co-authored with Henrietta Shelton (pictured left) and Ronald J. Stephens. Part of the well-known Images of America series, this book features a foreword by Heather and almost 200 photos telling the history of the previously segregated beach in Atlantic City. Employed by the Atlantic City Free Public Library before joining Bjork Library as the Special Collections Librarian, Heather is an Atlantic City historian and an asset to the Stockton community as she manages our Special Collections and University Archives. Visit Heather in Special Collections to learn more about our unique local history.
